Cataract is a condition causing clouding of the lens of our eyes that is responsible for focusing the images on nerve tissues located on our eyes’ back. Cataract in its advanced stage can result in dimmed vision and decreased visual clarity. The condition is usually treated by removing the clouded lenses. Majority of the cataract patients undergo a surgery in which the diseased lens get replaced by an artificial permanent lens called the intraocular lens. Monofocal lens:
Individuals choosing monofocal lenses during cataract surgery usually need contact lenses or glasses for providing correction of the visual distances located outside the implant’s fixed focus. If you have cataract in both your eyes, monofocal lens will be used for correcting the distance vision in one of your eyes and for correcting near vision of your other eye.
Toric lens:
Toric cataract lenses are monofocal lenses that are also used for correcting astigmatism. According to eye specialists, toric lenses corrects astigmatism improves the condition only for a chosen focal point.
Accommodating lens:
The accommodating cataract lenses stay attached to the muscles of our eyes that once used to control our natural lenses. These artificial lenses get moved by our eye muscles in the similar way they used to move our natural lenses. Use of the accommodating lenses allows viewing clear images of objects located at a range of distances.
Multifocal lens:
These lenses come with separate areas meant for correcting vision of separate focal distances. The working of these lenses is similar to the working of progressive lens used in eyeglasses. These lenses get implanted in both eyes of the patient. The patient’s brain needs round 6-12 weeks for adapting itself to the lens.
